Hamilton was hired as the AD back in 2003 but has been under fire since firing long time head coach Phillip Fulmer, then hiring Lane Kiffin who left Tennessee in the middle of the night for the head coaching job at USC.

While those happenings are bad enough, the debacle surrounding former basketball coach Bruce Pearl and the NCAA violations that followed couldn't have looked good either.

What makes Hamilton's resignation even more curious is the fact the school is meeting with the NCAA regarding the violations of both the basketball and football programs.
